Hello and welcome to the first ever Bra Boss blog! 

With this first blog, I wanted to introduce myself and give you a bit of a 'behind the scenes' about leaving my full time job and taking the plunge (pun intended!) of setting up my own bra fitting business.

Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED my previous role - the lingerie industry is one of the nicest industries to be involved in. All of the people I worked with were absolutely great and the role was exciting and different everyday. I loved meeting new people and helping them choose the ranges to have in their shop. Lingerie has such a vast range of styles, shapes, fabrics, purpose, fit - the list goes on.

Believe me when I say this - it really isn't a "sexy" or "raunchy" sort of job. I was far more likely to be talking about soft stretched cotton or deep control knickers rather than cleavage or anything else down that route. I would however, have in-depth sales meetings & heated discussions about thongs and you have a bit of a moment thinking "is this actually happening?"

Every meeting that I went to would be different and exciting. The morning could be spent going through the new seasonal swimwear collection for an online business, the afternoon could be spent going through marketing and event planning for Fenwick and the evening could then be a lingerie awards do at a swanky London venue with a free bar and Vanessa Feltz working the room as the host for the evening. 

It definitely wasn't always that glam though. Another 'normal' day would be a 4 hour drive, being stuck at the Dartford Crossing for 2 hours, doing a long presentation and then staying overnight on my own at a Travelodge. Funnily enough, dinner wasn't always at a swanky hotel, but more likely a McDonald's drive through or a pub dinner sat on my own being stared at by the locals. 

My role involved a lot of driving. And I mean a LOT. A journey that was 100 miles was a quick one. A 200 mile journey was probably one wee stop and maybe a coffee if I had time. My life revolved around loo breaks, motorway service stations and Hotels.com (although I was quite proud that I had reached Gold status!) 

I know that all jobs come with many pros and cons, but after almost 10 years of driving 1000 miles a week, something had to give. A lot changes from being 22 years old, single and totally carefree, to being 31 with a cat, mortgage and a boyfriend. I missed my cat. And at times, my boyfriend. 

As I mention in the "About Me" section of the website, I always had this little pang of what I guess was jealously, or probably more longing for a shop of my own. Some of the boutiques I would go and visit were not only absolutely BEAU-ti-ful, but they were busy & thriving - and more importantly, helping people. Helping women who would walk in to their shop and timidly say "I have no idea what size I am, but I hate the way I look and I'm so uncomfortable" to walking out of the changing room, head held high, with a new found confidence. The best ones would be a lady chucking their old bra in the bin right there & then and you would know you had made a small difference to someone's life.

It might sound silly to some, but being fitted in a new bra and a new size can be life changing! I've had ladies cry in the fitting room (the good sort of crying I hasten to add!) because they've finally found the right bra for them after many years of being badly fitted in other places. And that is what I want to do - help and support ladies and make them feel great again. I know in the great scheme of things its only a very small thing to do, but for that day, you have helped a runner feel more powerful and comfortable, or you have given a new mum a bit of a confidence boost and some guidance. 

Women want to be comfortable. They want to feel supported. Yes, they want something pretty. Yes they want to feel the best version of themselves. 

In January 2019 (new me, new start and all that!) I decided it was the right time to bid farewell to life on the road and start something new. I can't tell you how terrifying it feels to quit your job with nothing to go to but equally how exciting and exhilarating it feels. I had a bit of control back and I was now able to start making that dream into a reality. 

I'm excited to invite you to follow me on my journey of setting up my own business. I will share the highs and the lows, the "wow" moments and the "oh my God I'm not sure if I can do this" moments. 
But more importantly, I want to share with you how a good fitting bra can be life changing, how it can boost your confidence and make you feel amazing!
